A red sky in the morning…

Have you ever heard the adage ‘Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning’? Jill Milne captured this photograph of a fiery red sunrise in Howick on the morning of July 13. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, a red sunrise can indicate a low-pressure system or storm is on the horizon. It also suggests there is high water content in the atmosphere, and rain could be on its way. The predictions could not have been any more accurate on July 13, as a storm carrying powerful winds and torrential rain hit the region later that afternoon.
