Artisan exhibition to benefit local community organizations

The Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Howick is once again hosting an artisan exhibition and fundraiser featuring the work of a diverse group of local artists on August 16.

The day will include a quilt and weaving display including some antique quilts, woodworking by Bruce Craigmyle, and a majestic fairy garden display by Joanie Bertrand. The event will also spotlight the artwork of Canadian artists Robert Wiseman and Isabelle Thibault, who are renowned for their expressionistic oil painting and ink and watercolour drawings.

This year’s exhibition will raise funds for local community organizations. In previous years, proceeds were donated to the local movement to support Ukrainian families that had moved to the Valley. “The good news is that the Ukrainians who have stayed are stable,” said Amy Tolhurst, who is one of the event organizers. “We didn’t want the event to die because we felt like we were doing something meaningful,” she explained, noting this year’s efforts will likely go toward supporting youth and health-related organizations, among others.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A boxed lunch will be available by donation to the church. (SR)
