All the ghosts of Christmas made an appearance at Howick Elementary on December 20, as students presented their delightful interpretation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
The audience, seated in the school gymnasium, was transported back to early 1840’s England, where Ebenezer Scrooge was busy calling “humbug” on the Christmas celebrations taking place around him. The elderly miser was then visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present, and Christmas future, who convinced him to change his ways before it is too late.
Wonderfully performed by a cast and crew of around 45 students from the cycle three performing arts classes, the familiar scenes from the holiday classic were interspersed with festive carols and lively song selections by the Howick choir and the students of each grade level.
Parents, families, and school staff beamed with pride throughout the bilingual production, which was brought to life by performing arts teachers Kirk Elsmore, Anny Auclair, and Alicia Demers, who teach music, drama, and art respectively.
The students took part in every aspect of the production, from helping with set design and costuming to sound engineering, lighting, and backstage management.
“I don’t know how they pulled it all together, with the kids having been off for a week!” exclaimed principal Eveline Taylor, who also highlighted the exceptional work of the cast as well as the backstage and technical crew.
