Gorgeous weekend weather drew big crowds to this year’s edition of the Havelock Fair.
“We have definitely had good attendance,” said secretary-treasurer Rommy Hernandez Tenorio. “Compared with last year, it is much better,” she confirmed, recounting how last year’s fair was dampened by rain. By mid-afternoon on Sunday, those taking tickets estimated around 2,500 paying adults had come through the gate.
Hernandez Tenorio remarked that while numbers were up, so too was the number of participants, with over 400 exhibitors taking part in the event, including quite a few in the junior and intermediate categories.
Fair-goers enjoyed two full days of attractions including live music, vintage cars, snowmobile and machinery displays, a blacksmithing demonstration, and many informative kiosks and booths featuring local organizations and artisans. Children enjoyed pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatable games, a magic show, and many other activities located throughout the grounds. Visitors also enjoyed traditional horse shows, as well as dairy and 4-H showmanship exhibitions and various farm animal shows in the barns.
Hernandez Tenorio was careful to note that the team of volunteers behind the fair has been working together for two years. “I really appreciate their support because this fair, or any fair, cannot run without volunteers,” she said.
