Raised in the garage around derby cars, 12-year-old Austyn Dupont has driving in his blood. It showed on Saturday, July 20, as he maneuvered his way to victory in his first-ever competition, in the Relève category for 12- to 16-year-old drivers during the Saint-Chrysostome Demolition Derby. His father, seasoned derby driver Jason Dupont, along with grandfather Denis Dupont helped the rookie build and prep his car.
Over 100 racers participated in the event, which featured a smoke show and live DJ on July 19. The following day included a full lineup of exciting races that went long into the night. Organizers credited the drivers, their teams, and the spectators for the successful weekend, as well as the volunteers for their hard work before, during, and after the event. The derby also served as a fundraiser for ALS Quebec and for the annual guignolée. (SR)
