Some helpful and adventurous members of the 1st Huntingdon Beavers helped to build an outhouse for their camp at the Dunn Memorial Scout Camp at Powerscourt.
The Beavers used wood and supplies like drills, screws, hammers, and superglue to make the floor and the door and the sides. Then they added a roof made out of clear plastic.
“We needed a new one because all of the outhouses at Powerscourt are very old. They are leaning a little bit. We put it all together with power tools,” said one seven-year-old Beaver.
“We made a shelf and put a hole in it and screwed a toilet seat down. Then we all put our handprints on the inside. Then we cut out animal shapes with a special tool, and we screwed these to the outside,” added the Beaver.
The outhouse was planned out and prepared by Hopper (Peter MacDougall), and leaders Sunshine (Amanda Raithby) and Rusty (Shawn McNamee) helped the Beavers to put it all together in Bramble’s (Chris Daniel’s) garage.
“The Beavers were great: working together, using drills, and having a good time doing it,” said Rusty.
The outhouse will be installed at Powerscourt before spring camp in May.
