The annual photography contest organized by the MRC Haut Saint-Laurent will be back this fall, this year with the theme “Calm.” This theme was voted on by the public at the beginning of the year. Right now, the MRC is reminding photographers to send in their best photos under this theme by September 17.
This contest is a part of the Journées de la Culture, which is organized in collaboration with the Caisse Desjardins du Haut-Saint-Laurent and an anonymous philanthropist. The prizes are divided into two categories: youth and adult. The youth category is sponsored by the Caisse Desjardins, and three prizes will be awarded: first prize ($300), second prize ($200) and third prize ($100). The anonymous donor is sponsoring the adult category, which has the same prizes as the youth category. The donor has also sponsored a $250 people’s choice award for each category. Voting for this will take place throughout the month of the exhibition.
Photos can be mailed to MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent, 10 King Street, Office 400, Huntingdon, (Quebec), J0S 1H0. The exhibit will run from September 27 to October 27, 2024 (though closed October 11 to 14 for Thanksgiving) at the Salle Alfred-Langevin.
Besides the photography contest, the MRC is calling for artists of all disciplines to submit their work for the Calm exhibition as well. Artists can stop by on September 17 or 18, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.) to make their submissions.
