It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of John W. Black, 78, of Moncton, on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Chateauguay, QC, he was the son of the late Wallace and Elora (Dow) Black and predeceased by his sister Caroline Black. Known to many also as JB, Mr. B and Johnny, Dad’s sense of humour and quick wit were always the silver lining on the darkest days and until the end. With a passion for country, gospel and country music, he entertained many on his Martin and Blueridge acoustic guitars. If there was a real-life McGyver and one to think “outside the box”, it was Dad. A fix for any mechanical problem from a snow blower, chain saw, or vehicles, he had a gift for using his hands and a work ethic that was second to none. A lover of animals big and small, Dad was a gift to all he encountered. One of his greatest enjoyments was watching his grandkids in their sports, whether it was horseback riding, hockey, or basketball, he was always their biggest fan, and would often sing and play “You Are My Sunshine” to them. Our dad will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 51 years Marilyn Sullivan, his daughter Cindy Howell (Dean) and son Graham Black (Valerie). He was the best Pop to his grandchildren, Keely, Austin, Kyle, Lindsay and Hayley, and a loyal brother and friend to sister Evelyn Sinclair, brother Albert Black (Bonnie), as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and long-time friends he considered to be family. We are comforted knowing we share the loss of Dad with many in the communities of St. Urbain, Chateauguay, Kemptville, Athens, Shigawake, Toronto, Brockville, and Moncton. In honoring Dad’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service. A private family interment was held at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Howick, QC on Wednesday, May 25 and one will also be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Shigawake, QC. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society (alzheimer.ca) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca).
