For Liberal Party candidate Charles Royer Tremblay, the rapid growth of the Beauharnois riding has resulted in several challenges, including the need for housing, public services, and economic development. He explained that growth at this scale must be accompanied by investments to preserve residents’ quality of life while meeting the needs of newcomers to the region.
The situation facing small and medium-sized businesses is also a concern in the context of the trade dispute with the United States. Royer Tremblay said that if elected, he would prioritize access to financing and supports for innovation and productivity to help businesses diversify their markets.
Royer Tremblay is also concerned that health and education infrastructure in the riding is not keeping pace with demographic changes, as the region’s population is both growing and aging. He proposed solutions that focus on attracting and retaining the area workforce as well as the provision of services at the municipal level. “An elderly person should not have to travel 40 kilometres to see a doctor. Emergency rooms must have enough staff and beds,” he argued.
Housing is another key issue. Royer Tremblay said he would work with municipalities to accelerate residential development and facilitate the implementation of affordable housing projects. In his view, French-language training and integration services must also be readily accessible to new residents.
Beyond infrastructure, Royer Tremblay said he believes the main challenge facing the riding will be the preservation of the region’s character during this period of rapid transformation. “We must manage this change in an inclusive way, respecting all our communities without ever forgetting who we are,” he maintained.
In particular, he wants to better support community organizations, agriculture, local businesses, and vocational training. “We must turn this growth into a strength, without losing what defines our identity and our quality of life.”
