April started off in topsy-turvy style, as seems to be the custom these days. Even though last Thursday hit nearly 25 degrees Celsius in the Valley, the average temperature settled at 4.1 C for the first few days of the month, which is two and a half degrees below the normal of 6.5 C. Needless to say, the other days of the first week of April were on the cool side.
Finally we had some rain, with 29.6 millimetres descending upon the area over five days, with no snow. On a pro-rata basis, this represents double the normal amount of precipitation, but in reality it just makes up for the deficit in March, which was only 60 per cent of normal.
April is forecast to have cool days, with nights being slightly warmer than average – so the month should be average overall. If the forecast holds true, Thursday, April 3, will turn out to be the warmest day of the month by several degrees! So far for 2025, the average temperature is -0.1 C below normal – despite wildly varying highs and lows, pretty much right on the button – and average precipitation, rain and melted snow, is only 69 per cent of normal.
