Châteauguay Valley Weather December 19-25, 2021

Peter Finlayson, Ormstown Weatherman

December returned closer to normal during the third week of the month with a significant drop in average temperature, which settled at -2.4° C, a two degree drop from the previous week. The month is still likely to end up warmer than the normal of -4.5° C, but now we’ll need some very cold weather for the remainder of the month to even get close to normal.

Despite the threat of significant snowfall on Christmas Eve and Day, the storm veered off somewhere else. Even the threat of buckets of freezing rain petered out into just 2 mm, which was a good thing because another threat to the power grid on a holiday weekend would not have been appreciated. The little freezing rain left the thin covering of snow intact for a White Christmas.

So far in December, we’ve received 46 mm of rain and 24 cm of snow, bringing total precipitation to 70 mm, which is about normal. There are a few snow flurries forecast throughout the week before New Year’s, and January is forecast to be dry and cold. All the best for 2022!
