Although last week was slightly below the temperature for the previous week in March, it
wasn’t enough to move the needle very far on the average temperature for the month.
The average temperature dropped a wee bit, from +0.9 degrees Celsius down to +0.7
C, while the normal for the month is -1.4 C. Given that the last day of the month is
forecast to be way above normal, March is very likely to be at least two degrees above
average.
The snow and rain at the end of the week helped to reduce the deficit in precipitation for
the month. There were 9 centimetres of snow and 13 millimetres of rain by Sunday
morning, bringing the monthly total for precipitation to 49 mm, or about 60 per cent of
normal. This was made up of 26 mm of rain, and 18 cm of snow which melted down to
23 mm of water.
The forecast for April will be about average, but with cooler days and slightly warmer
nights than average, mostly above zero except for the first week of the month.
