October has stayed slightly warm through the first three weeks with an average temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius, down a bit from the previous week but still above the normal of 9.4 degrees Celsius for the month. While the daytime temperatures have been behaving like a yo-yo, the nighttime temperatures, consistent with the rest of the year, have been well above normal.
Precipitation has been on the slim side with only 7.5 mm of rain in the last week and a total of 37 mm for the month, which is only 60% of normal. Farmers haven’t been complaining, as the lack of rain has made field work a lot easier, and the grain corn harvesting is well underway. There’s even been the occasional hay field cut for haylage, a rare event this late in the season.
