Chateauguay Valley weather report January 1-10, 2026

The first week or so of 2026 started on a fairly normal footing with temperature and precipitation close to what we should expect.

The average temperature was -8.1 degrees Celsius, while the normal for the whole month is -8.6 C. This included a traditional “January thaw” when temperatures zoom well above zero for a few days, and a lot of snow melts accompanied by rain and/or freezing rain.

Talking about precipitation, it was slightly higher than average at 30 millimetres total for the first 10 days. This was made up of 18 mm of rain and 9 centimetres of snow, which melted down to 12 mm of water, so wet and heavy stuff, and lots of icy patches on roads and walkways once the temperatures went back down.

The forecast for the rest of the month looks to be much the same with a few days above average and a few days below, with only a few nights when the thermometer will drop to around -20 C.
