January has been on a bit of a roller coaster with temperatures in the first week well below normal and then a few days well above normal in the second week. Temperatures ranged from 4 C to -23 degrees Celsius within the same week!
The average temperature for the second week of 2025 was -6.8 C, up from -8.0 C the week before, and well above the normal for January of -8.6 C. On January 18, the nighttime low was higher than the normal daytime high.
Precipitation was light during the past week with just 2.6 millimetres of rain and 7 centimetres of snow, bringing the month-to-date total to 46 cm. This has melted down to only 26 mm of water which, with the 4 mm of rain received, brings total precipitation to just 30 mm or about 60 per cent of normal on a prorated basis.
The remainder of January will be mostly cold with a warm spike towards the end when the nighttime lows will again be well above normal.
