Although this report is just a few days into the month of July, it is a hot one. The
average temperature for the month is 21.1 degrees Celsius while the average
temperature for these first four days is 27.0 C. This obviously reflected the heat wave
that gave us three days of +30 C temperatures with no rain unless you received a
thunderstorm over the particular spot where you live.
In lockstep with the above-average temperature, the corn heat unit (CHU) count
continued to accumulate nicely, with 125 CHU for the first four days of the month; the
normal for July is 799 CHU, so July is off to a good start. The total CHUs since the start
on May 16 has now reached 1165 CHU, approximately one third of normal for the
growing season.
The forecast for the remainder of July is for average temperatures during the day with
warmer-than-average nights, and very little precipitation.
