Châteauguay Valley Weather The week of December 6–12, 2020

Peter Finlayson, Ormstown Weatherman

December continues to run well above normal for temperature, and well below normal for precipitation.

Although the average temperature dipped from +2.8 °C down to +0.6 °C, it’s still way above the monthly average of -4.5 °C. This trend will no doubt change with some very brisk temperatures forecast for the middle and end of the coming week, but with the night-time lows well above average—it was +9.5 °C in the middle of Saturday night—December is likely to be warmer than normal.

Despite the overcast skies and threats of deluge from stormy weather down south, most of the anticipated moisture in December has moved off to the eastern part of Quebec. There were only 4 mm of rain and melted snow in the last week, bringing the monthly total so far to only 16 mm of precipitation, or 50% less than what would be normally expected.

And there’s not a lot of precipitation in the forecast for the remainder of the month—maybe even no snow until New Year’s eve!
