Châteauguay Valley Weather Week of April 17-23, 2022

Last week we reported that April was “Wet!” Well, this week, we’re reporting that April is “Really wet!”

The first three weeks of the month have received 128 mm of precipitation made up of 118 mm of rain and 8 cm of snow. This is 50% more moisture than the average for the whole month, and we’ve still got another week to go with a forecast of rain or showers on most days. To no one’s surprise, rain or snow was recorded during 16 of the 23 days in April.

The average temperature has cooled off instead of warming up to accompany the wet weather. The average temperature now sits at +5.8 degrees Celsius, which is a significant drop from the +6.3 degrees Celsius recorded last week and well below the normal for April of +6.5 degrees Celsius. The drop in the average temperature can be attributed to cooler temperatures during the daytime, which makes sense given the snow that fell at the beginning of the week.

Monday and Tuesday of the coming week are forecast to be warmer with highs of around 15 degrees Celsius, but cooler days will arrive again to close out the month and continue well into May – the current forecast is that we won’t get above 20 degrees Celsius until May 26th! It’s good for keeping the bloom on spring flowers, but it looks like stringing the hammock up in the yard for an afternoon nap will have to wait until June!
