Santa Claus and many of his most trusted local helpers made their way down the streets of Howick on December 7 as crowds turned out for the 17th edition of the Christmas parade. The parade route started at Howick Elementary School, where brightly decorated floats carrying many an elf lined up for the one o’clock start. As a cavalcade of shiny red fire trucks blared their sirens, decorated gingerbread men, friendly snowmen, and even the Grinch passed out candy canes and treats to those lining the streets. Eager children were all smiles as the festive procession passed, most waiting patiently for a glimpse of the jolly old elf, who was joined by Mrs. Claus for the joyous event. (SR)
