Quebec Lieutenant Governor Manon Jeannotte presided over a King Charles III Coronation Medal presentation ceremony on December 1 honouring deserving individuals from the Montérégie region.
A total of 116 medals were awarded during the ceremony, which took place with the 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in hangar 10 of the Saint-Hubert Garrison in Longueuil.
Several residents of the Huntingdon riding were among the recipients of the prestigious honour, which recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to their province, territory, region, or community in one of nine categories.
Huntingdon MNA Carole Mallette was asked to refer the names of ten recipients, including Michel Charbonneau of the CLD des Jardins-de-Napierville, Jean-Pierre Ranger of Parc Safari, Hemmingford Legionnaire Kenneth Ouellet, Ambioterra director Priscilla Gareau, agronomist Sylvie Thibaudeau, Silvia Todorova of Anatis Bioprotection, former Saint-Anicet mayor and volunteer Alain Castagner, Gabriel Barrière of the Lacolle Lions Club, farmer and president of the Association des Producteurs Maraîchers du Québec (APMQ) Catherine Lefebvre, and producer Jean-Bernard Van Winden.
Also honoured with a medal was artist and chair of the New Frontiers School Board John Ryan, former Huntingdon MNA and university professor Claire IsaBelle, and Une Affaire de Famille director Gabrielle Limoges.
The Valley’s Hugh Maynard was also among the recipients of this honour. He received his medal from Senator Robert Black during a ceremony that took place at the Senate of Canada on November 22 in Ottawa.
The Coronation Medal was created to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on May 6, 2023. The medal has been awarded to 1,309 individuals in Quebec. A total of 30,000 medals will be presented to deserving Canadians from across the country. (SR)
