Demonstration draws attention to protecting water resources

Around 35 people marked World Water Day on March 22 by taking part in a rally to raise awareness about the significance of local and regional water resources. The demonstration was organized by the Protect our Water Source citizens’ group, which was formed in response to the recently approved industrial water extraction project in Hinchinbrooke. Participants gathered in Prince-Arthur Park, where members of the citizens’ group addressed the crowd, followed by representatives from McGill University’s Leadership for the Ecozoic program, the Ambioterra conservation group, and the Mouvement d’Action Régionale en Environnement. Participants carrying signs and flags then took to the streets for a symbolic march to Russell Island, where they gathered once more for a dance party and celebration of water along the banks of the Chateauguay River.
