The Club de Golf St-Anicet will drop from 36 to 27 holes next season to make way for around 20 properties as part of the first phase of a new housing development.
“I’ve been thinking about this for ten years, and we have been working on it for four,” says Marc Faubert, who is one of four co-owners with Patrice Bougie, Naim Baksh, and George Maziotis. “Without my partners, such a project would not have been possible,” he says. Judy Pomminville of Remax and Elli Construction are also associated with the project.
The Domaine Port-Lewis residential development will not include condo towers, says Faubert. Lots will be between 35,000 to 45,000 square feet each, in a nature-oriented living environment with access to the golf course, hiking trails, and winter activities. “We don’twant to denature the area,” says Faubert, noting they are developing the property with a focus on the safety of future residents.

It goes without saying that the reduction in golf greens will affect golfers’ habits. “This is not coming as a surprise to our members, as we have been keeping them informed of the project for several years now,” notes Faubert. “We will be working to reorganize ourschedule more closely, so we are able to respond to golfers’ needs as effectively as possible,” he adds.
The housing project will officially be launched on April 16.
