Dollarama coming to Huntingdon

The Dollarama chain of discount stores will soon be opening a new location in Huntingdon in the abandoned bowling alley, adjacent to the IGA supermarket.

Huntingdon Mayor André Brunette acknowledged the news in an article published in the Journal le Saint-François, saying that after doing a market study, a businessman who acquired the building had convinced Dollarama to move in. The arrival of Dollarama represents an estimated investment of between $1.5 and $2 million. Renovation work has begun at the site and the store is expected to open in the coming months.

The announcement was greeted on social media with a mix of emotions. Some are pleased while others are concerned about the level of competition this may pose for the existing discount store as well as several other local businesses.
