The newly created Mères au front Suroît-Sud organization and the ACTES committee at the École de la Baie-Saint-François in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield are organizing an Earth Day event on Saturday, April 26.
The activity will feature a conference by Robert Poupard, an ardent defender of the environment, who has been involved with the Crivert as well as the Lac Saint-François National Wildlife Area. The conference will focus on the challenges facing biodiversity in the Suroit region.
A “swap your stuff” table will also be set up including a book exchange as well as clothing, shoes, toys, tools and small household appliances in good condition that will be up for grabs.
Each participant will be able to leave their mark on a collective art piece that will be created during the event.
Anyone interested in joining the Mères au front movement, which is a peaceful and inclusive group of women looking to protect the environment for their children and their future, will be able to speak with representatives from the local chapter.
Members of the Mouvement d’Action Regional en Environment will also be present to talk about their current campaigns. Finally, the Jardins Glenelm organic market garden will also be on site to answer questions about community-supported agriculture and the Fermier et Fermière de Famille network.
The event takes place on April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon in the auditorium at École de la Baie Saint François. More details are available on the event page on social media: facebook.com/events/9782933068439600. (SR)
