A new medical first responder truck has been integrated into the line of emergency vehicles available to members of the Service de Sécurité Incendie (SSI) for the municipality of Sainte-Barbe.
Fully equipped with state-of-the-art features, the new vehicle will allow firefighters to respond quickly to emergency interventions requiring medical assistance within Sainte-Barbe and the surrounding area.
“As our territory is bordered by Lake Saint-François, in addition to the islands that are inhabited on the lake, the first-responder service is extremely important for the safety of our citizens,” said Sainte-Barbe’s mayor, Louise Lebrun. “The addition of this truck to the vehicles and equipment already in place at the SSI, in addition to our new fire station, confirms our position as a leader in fire and boating safety in the region,” she added.
The Sainte-Barbe SSI includes a team trained as level two medical first responders. This specialization allows firefighters to respond to all emergency calls in which an individual’s life is in immediate danger, including road accidents, cardiorespiratory arrest, or a severe allergic reaction, for example.
The previous vehicle was retired after 20 years of use. The new truck has been in service since December.
