Four social economy organizations receive BIEC grants

The winners of this year’s Bourses d’initiatives en entrepreneuriat collectif (BIEC) grants for the Montérégie region were announced during the annual Gala des Lauréats, which took place on March 21 at the Centre socioculturel Alphonse Lepage in Brossard.

Over $65,000 in bursaries were awarded to ten social economy enterprises in the Montérégie-Ouest region, including two businesses in the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry, as well as one from both the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent and the MRC des Jardins-de-Napierville.

The Beauharnois-based Pointe-du-Buisson archaeology museum received a $4,000 grant to update its outdoor signage and improve the quality of its visuals. The Société de conservation et d’aménagement des bassins versants de la Zone Châteauguay (OBV SCABRIC) will use a $7,500 grant to install charging stations for electric vehicles beside their offices in Sainte-Martine.

In the Haut-Saint-Laurent, the social housing complex Les Habitations des Tisserandes was awarded $7,500 to equip its transitional housing units with new refrigerators. Finally, Apprendre en Coeur, an organization specializing in language stimulation for young children based in St-Remi, received $7,500 for its Lire en Coeur intergenerational project aimed at creating stories for children.

In the Montérégie-Ouest, the BIEC program is coordinated by the Pôle d’économie sociale Vallée-du-Haut-Saint-Laurent in partnership with the ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAMH), the 12 MRCs in the Montérégie, the Agglomération de Longueuil, Montérégie Économique, and the Table de concertation régionale de la Montérégie (TCRM).
