DAILY STAGE LINE TO BEAUDETTE – The subscribers would respectfully inform the travelling public that they will commence running a daily Stage for Beaudette, connecting with the trains for Montreal, on Monday, the 17th inst. Will leave Huntingdon at 12 noon for Beaudette in time for the 3:15 train. Leaving Beaudette on the arrival of the 6:40 p.m. train. Careful drivers. Parties wishing to catch the early morning train will be accommodated. Freight taken at the lowest perices. McARTHUR & SHIRRIF.
MONTREAL, Jan. 26. – This forenoon fifty sleighs of wood driven by farmers from St Jerome and vicinity entered the city from the west, and, headed by the Dominion Band from Hochelaga, proceeded in line along Notre Dame street eastward. Father Labelle, of St Jerome, to whose efforts this gift to the Montreal poor is principally due, drove in a sleigh immediately behind the band.

ATHELSTAN – The Misses McDuffee gave an entertainment in the basement of the church on Friday evening. Miss H. McDuffee’s rendering of the piece “Them oxen” was well received.
DUNDEE – Mr Smith, collector of customs here, received a telegram on the 23rd inst. From Mr D. Ewart, chief architect of the public works department, Ottawa, instructing him to have the government building draped in commemoration of the death of Her Majesty. Mr Smith did not delay in carrying out the mandate and the building was profusely draped in black, in good taste and artistic in style.

HOCKEY in the Huntingdon Skating Rink on Saturday, Jany. 30th., 1926. Canadian Bank of Commerce (Intermediates) vs. Huntingdon – The Commerce team is at the head of the Bankers league, and the local boys will have to exert themselves to come out on top. This game will be fast and will give the local supporters a chance to see a good city team in action. Admission – 35c. 25c. Puck faced at 8:15 p.m.

… Unity Being Built Up in European Countries to Counter Threat of War – … French Appeal: France has appealed to the countries of western Europe to muster their soldiers into one army, in one uniform, to withstand one enemy. … The idea of a European army was advanced originally by Winston Churchill at a council of Europe meeting in Strasbourg last summer. France has now furthered the proposal by inviting the countries of Western Europe to meet in Paris Feb. 6 to discuss implementing the project. In issuing the call the French government made a move which may well influence the history of Europe. Her first invitation was sent to her former bitter enemy – Germany: that is, to the republic of West Germany, and a West German government source at Bonn said the invitation was bound to be accepted.

WE’D PUT MORE FAITH – in the Groundhog and his shadow – than we would in what some politicians have to say. ONE MAY WONDER – what Seaway Officials who claimed keeping the St. Lawrence Seaway open for navigation during the winter months are thinking now. JUST THIS – the wind blew so hard during the storm on Monday that an Elgin farmer’s wife who went to the barn with her husband says she had to get on her hands and knees to get around a corner of the building. And we know she doesn’t touch the stuff.
