ORMSTOWN: All who left here for Manitoba on the harvest excursion have returned. They all speak well of the country.
STE MARTINE: The farmers’ club has bought all the tools necessary to bore wells for the benefit of its members.
BEAUHARNOIS: Friday afternoon a warrant was issued against a young lad for having stolen property in his possession. The warrant was taken out by a person who owns a restaurant, and who has a niece working for her. The young lady was somewhat attached to the lad, and to show her affection for him gave him a number of presents, which amounted to about $100 in value. These presents were claimed by her aunt as her property. The matter was brought before magistrate Deslauriers, and was postponed until Monday, but before time of hearing came, the matter was settled to the satisfaction of all concerned. All’s well that ends well.

WILL THERE BE A PRICE CRASH? Agricultural Writer Points To Possible Low Prices For Butter: A very small fraction of the butter manufactured in Canada finds its market in the United States. It is true, however, that the big republic always affords an alternative market and prices for dairy products across the line are an important factor in lending either strength or weakness to markets at home. The situation this year does ot encourage optimism.

PLEASURE TRAVEL DOLLAR RATIONING CONTINUES: Rationing of United States dollars for the pleasure travel will continue for at least another year, the Finance Department announced Wednesday. Canadians may spend only $150 a year in U.S. money for pleasure travel outside the Dominion. But since devaluation of the Canadian dollar in September, the ration now costs $165 in Canadian money. The regulation first went into effect in November 1947, as part of the Government’s program to curb spending in the U.S. … Children under 11 are allowed only $100 in U.S. funds.

Rennie, M.L.A., Lays Cornerstone New Barrie M.H.: Large Gathering in Attendance Although Weather Cold and Bright. … [He] said that the construction of the hospital was particularly significant in that it represented a new attitude towards people living in the rural areas. “It was finally realized,” Mr. Rennie said, “that people in the rural areas should receive as much assistance towards improving their educational and health standards as did the people in large cities.”

ORMSTOWN: Ribbon-cutting ceremonies draw 700 to Walshaven opening: Overcast skies and intermittent chill rain did not dampen the spirits of an estimated 700 people who attended the official opening of Ormstown’s Walshaven Home for Retired People Sunday afternoon. The 32-unit apartment complex, though not yet completely finished, was open to visitors after a short ceremony of cutting the ribbon and unveiling the granite stone beside the front entrance.
