Gueulart takes art exhibition on the road

Gueulart is a not-for-profit artist-run centre in Saint-Isidore-de-Laprairie that promotes local artists through visual arts exhibitions, cultural mediation events, conferences, and concerts. This summer, the organization is taking its show on the road.

The Gueulart en cavale project will visit six rural municipalities to present different cultural activities each month in a new environment. The project has been made possible with funding through the Fonds regions et ruralité program. The goal is to make locally produced art more accessible to rural communities.

The first stop for the travelling exhibition was Saint-Urbain-Premier in April, which was followed by an ongoing stint at the community centre in Saint-Édouard. The next will be at the Salle Culturelle Alfred-Langevin in Huntingdon.

The vernissage for the exhibition in Huntingdon, which will include works from over a dozen painters and sculptors, is scheduled to take place on June 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. The launch will include an on-site musical performance by local singer-songwriter John Speed and vocalist Nicole Poissant.

Two events will happen in conjunction with the exhibition, including a lecture on collage art by Ghyslaine Payant on June 29 at 1:30 p.m. and a screening of the film Le Fabuleux Marais by André Desrochers on July 7 at 1:30 p.m. This will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker. Admission is free for all events. The exhibition will close on July 14.

Gueulart en cavale will then travel to the municipality of Franklin for an exhibition starting in September, before moving on to Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague in November, and Mercier in December.

The travelling exhibitions are in addition to the regular Gueulart programming at the gallery in Saint-Isidore-de-Laprairie, which is currently showing drawings, sculptures, and collages by artist Claudine Ascher entitled Fantômes. (SR)
