Branch 244 of the Hemmingford Royal Canadian Legion conducted a VE Day (Victory in Europe) ceremony on May 8, joined by about 45 students from Hemmingford Elementary School, as well as some parents. Two soldiers from the Royal Canadian Hussars in Montreal participated, and two pipers led the procession of students from the school to the cenotaph. After the ceremony, all students were warmly welcomed into the Legion for a shared meal of hot dogs and water. The Hemmingford Legion continues to celebrate VE Day each May 8 to honour the immense sacrifices made during World War II, preserve historical memory, remember the fallen, and recognize our veterans. These annual ceremonies are a vital tradition, ensuring that we all remember and instill this respect in our students. (Karl Kramell)
