HES staffers honour Terry Fox results with new ‘dos

Three staff members at Howick Elementary School followed through on a promise to shave their heads if the school community was able to raise $10,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation during its annual run this September.

Students at the school and the Howick community at large jumped aboard the cause in support of Alyanne, a grade 5 student who was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer last summer, and a whopping $11,025 was the final tally for the school. On October 3, cheering students gathered in the gymnasium as Alyanne brought out the clippers. Chris Wallace, Shannon Robinson, and Annie Auclair all received new haircuts, and as a surprise, Alyanne’s close friend at school, Peyton Brown, bravely joined the staff on stage.

HES has been celebrating its Terry Fox success with a series of special theme over the past weeks, including a crazy sock day, crazy hat day, and pyjama day. “Everyone has just been embracing everything,” says Principal Melanie Primeau. (SR)
