House badly damaged by fire in Sainte-Barbe

For the second time this week, the Service de Sécurité Incendie (SSI) in Sainte-Barbe has been called to the scene of a fire.

When firefighters arrived at the scene of a house fire at 121 chemin du Bord de l’eau shortly after 10 p.m. on November 14, the residents had already evacuated the building. The fire was raging in the basement.

Joël Trudeau, the director of the Sainte-Barbe SSI, says that although the fire was quickly brought under control, the damage to the building is considerable. Neighbouring fire departments in Godmanchester, Huntingdon, Saint-Anicet, Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka, and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield were called to assist. In all, around 40 firefighters took part in the operation.

Trudeau confirms that no incidents were reported during the response. The homeowners called on the Red Cross for support.

Firefighters returned to the scene of the fire the following morning after receiving a call around 8 a.m.

According to Trudeau, the cause of the fire has not been confirmed. (SR)
