600 attend opening of hospital as McCrimmon wing dedicated
Bright sunshine, summery temperatures and the skirl of the bagpipes all lent a truly festive air to the official opening of the new McCrimmon wing and the Huntingdon County Hospital Centre – L.C.S.C., on Saturday afternoon.
A crowd estimated at well over 600 came out in their Sunday best to tour the new facilities, watch a series of presentations, and enjoy light refreshments served by the Ladies Auxiliary, who took upon themselves the lions’ share of organizing what was for many, the culmination of several years’ anticipation and hard work.
The 3 p.m. opening ceremonies saw Dr. F.G. McCrimmon and M.N.A. Ken Fraser conduct the ribbon-cutting on the front entrance steps.
Both men, in their brief speeches delivered in English and French, mentioned the proud history of the local hospital and the community spirit which facilitated the construction of the well-equipped new wing.
