Have you ever needed to turn to the services of the Comité Chômage du Haut-Richelieu at du Suroît? For over 30 years, the committee has been a leading voice in defending and promoting the region’s unemployed and workers. The committee offers information, support and assistance to people with or without a job.
When one loses a job, whatever the circumstances, they are often left feeling lost and confused. Our counsellors are there to answer questions, provide facts, and support individuals. They are even able to accompany individuals to the administrative tribunal, if necessary. In some cases, they can represent individuals in their request for a review or an appeal. It is reassuring to be supported by people who are experts at navigating the maze of government bureaucracy.
The team at the Comité Chômage works closely with our national umbrella organization, the Conseil national des chômeurs et chômeuses (CNC), to advocate for an employment insurance system that is fair and accessible, where individuals are treated with respect and dignity through the provision of replacement income in the event of job loss.
The committee also includes a popular education component featuring public information sessions that are open to all. In collaboration with different community partners, we offer employment insurance support to the region’s population throughout the year.
Employment insurance offers different types of benefits to workers, including regular, sickness, and caregiver benefits, as well as compassionate care benefits, fishermen and farmer benefits, special benefits for self-employed workers, and benefits for Canadians living abroad.
