The Larocque bridge was closed in both directions Friday morning following a fatal accident that occurred at dawn on the span linking Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka.
According to the Journal Le Saint-François, the driver of the automobile swerved and the vehicle caught fire.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. The Sûreté du Québec is presently investigating the circumstances of the accident on site, which could take several hours.
Traffic in both directions on the bridge has been stopped.
