The 8th edition of the Défi Visitons nos aînés du Haut Saint-Laurent came to a rousing end on July 12 as nearly 100 people celebrated the annual event, which encourages family and friends to visit with the senior citizens in their lives.
The activity, which included active-living exercises with the Ormstown Fédération de l’Âge d’Or du Québec (FADOQ) as well as live musical performances, took place on the grounds of the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown.
Participants were encouraged to register their visits with seniors throughout the challenge, which ran from June 1 to 30. During the month, musical performances took place at 18 locations in the Haut-Saint-Laurent, including the Barrie Memorial, seniors’ residences, long-term care residences, low-cost housing centres, and day centres, reaching an estimated 500 individuals. An activity marking the World Day Against Elder Abuse also took place at the Huntingdon residential and long-term care centre on June 15, which brought together 82 residents, staff, family members, and volunteers.
