A new 4-H year has started, bringing activities to the Valley and members together. This year, Quebec 4-H’s Winter Junior Camp was held in Ormstown, welcoming 26 junior members for a weekend of fun at the recreation centre, with the theme of “Mission Impossible” keeping the young 4-Hers on their toes.
Two intermediate members and chaperones also helped guide the activities, which included tubing, skating, cooking, crafting, and even a challenging escape room-like scenario! Friendships blossomed during this fun wintery getaway to the Valley that will continue in the summer when Junior Summer Camp rolls around.
Next up was the Provincial Innovative Agricultural Tour that took place from March 7 to 9, hosted by the Lachute 4-H which welcomed members from Ormstown, Richmond, Sawyerville, and Shawville. Friday night was filled with icebreakers, games, and learning a line dance.
Saturday morning the tour started with the McOuat Poultry Farm, followed by Desrosiers’, a beef farm alongside a boutique. Tranquility Agriculture Inc. was next after lunch; they use robotics and technology on their dairy farm to advance their efficiency and productivity. Fromagerie et CIE finished off the day.
Sunday morning brought the members to Intermiel for a tour of the warehouse and visitor centre, where they learned about bees and their products. Ferme Blondin was the second stop, educating the 4-Hers in the hard work they put into their dairy genetics; and the last place before home was a visit to Hadley Christmas Tree Farm, where participants learned about the challenges and rewards of growing Christmas trees.
