The dresses were sparkling and feet were flying as students from the Young Academy of Irish Dance took part in the sixth annual Young Academy Championships on April 12. At least 53 students from the Academy, including 13 from the Ormstown class, took to the stage at John Abbott College in Saint-Anne de Bellevue. A total of 253 dancers competed in the feis, or competition, from all over eastern Canada and the United States. Janice Young, the owner and head teacher at the local school, says that this was just the start of the competitive year as dancers work towards the Eastern Canadian Championships in December.
