As Mark Hayvren stated in his letter to the editor, this is not a criticism of the rural carriers, but a follow-up point that he did not mention. I live on Route 138 in Ormstown. If you go east from the four corners towards Howick, there are approximately 10 houses on the right side of the 138 where the mailboxes are located. For these homes, there is no problem in checking the mailboxes.
However, on the left side of the 138 facing Howick, there are too many homes to count. Most, I would say, are retired people who now have to cross the 138 to check their mail. The risk of crossing the 138 has now increased dramatically for us. Instead of going once or twice a week to check because the flag is up, we now go five times a week, hoping we have enough time to cross back and forth due to the busy highway.
Enough said – you get the picture.
