Mailboxes raided in Hinchinbrooke

Thieves have been cashing in on cheques being sent through the mail by stealing from mailboxes in the region. A resident living on the Gore Road in Hinchinbrooke reports that she has lost over $3,500 to thieves who stole cheques she was sending out to a number of local organizations, including the UPA and her local municipal office. She noticed the cheques had been cashed but thought nothing of it until late payment notifications began to arrive in the mail. The cheques had been cashed at the Caisse Populaire bank in Valleyfield.
After calling her bank, most of the issues were resolved; however, she has since begun to switch to direct deposit whenever possible. “I will never put mail in my mailbox again,” she says, suggesting she has been going into the post office to take care of any business directly. According to a local postal worker, similar incidents have happened to residents living on the Boyd Settlement Road as well as the Brook Road.
