Major upgrades are coming to the Hôpital du Suroît in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield as part of a landmark project to convert the hospital’s energy system.
The project represents an investment of more than $25.7 million over several years to modernize the energy and electrical infrastructure that is essential to the facility’s day-to-day operations. This will include replacing outdated heating systems, modernizing electrical and emergency systems, upgrading electrical feeders, and replacing critical generators.
“With this investment, we are tangibly strengthening our ability to provide continuous care in safe conditions and to support our teams in their daily work. It is this type of action that allows us to maintain a reliable and operational hospital, serving the population of today and tomorrow,” said Dominique Pilon, president and CEO of Santé Québec Montérégie-Ouest.
Beyond modernizing equipment, the project aims to strengthen the hospital’s resilience in the face of unforeseen events. By improving the reliability of its systems, the medical centre will be able to maintain its operations under exceptional circumstances, which is significant given today’s context where energy and climate challenges are becoming increasingly common.
The project also includes an energy transition component that will reduce the hospital’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions according to government guidelines on sustainable development and environmental performance. (SR)
