The MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry inaugurated a section of its bicycle path in Beauharnois earlier in October in the company of Beauharnois MNA Claude Reid, Salaberry-Suroît MP Claude DeBellefeuille, MRC prefect Miguel Lemieux, Beauharnois mayor Alain Dubuc, and various municipal representatives. The nearly five-kilometre stretch connects Beauharnois with Salaberry-de-Valleyfield by linking the Halte du Héron to Route 132. The section is now integrated with the rest of the 72-kilometre Beauharnois-Salaberry Regional Park cycling network.
The bike path was a long time coming. A citizen launched a petition in 2017 to rehabilitate a previous bike path in this area that garnered 591 signatures. Construction began in 2022 on the $2.89 million project with funding from the provincial and federal governments, the MRC, and Beauharnois. (SR)
