The second giant mural of the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent’s circuit has converted a silo at Thornbrae Farm in Très-Saint-Sacrement into a towering work of art.
Created by the artist Bosny, the design features green bands at the top and bottom of the mural that are reminiscent of the historic Turcot Bridge. Beneath a giant swallow are stylized pictograms of various pollinators. The hexagonal shapes of the pictograms are an homage to the heritage of barn quilts, several of which adorn the nearby barn at Thornbrae.
With at least one more silo expected to be completed by the end of the year, the MRC has launched the second phase of its project. The regional government is looking for producers with a silo that is visible from the road, who are interested in helping to transform the region into a must-see cultural destination by celebrating its agricultural heritage.
The project is open to farm owners with silos and agricultural buildings. A short questionnaire is now available online for potential applicants. More information on the project can also be found at mrchsl.com/silos. (SR)
