Kira Welburn was surrounded by family and friends, including her proud grandmother, Yvette Harper, and her equally enthusiastic art teacher, Pat Walsh, during the vernissage for her new exhibition entitled Abstractions at the Little Green Library.
Featuring a selection of her animé art, which explores connections between the natural world and fantastical realms, the show also includes several examples of her work with abstractions.
A graduate of Concordia University’s fine arts department, Welburn is also an advocate for inclusivity and understanding. She has autism spectrum disorder (high-functioning autism) and she explains in her artist statement that she hopes to “foster empathy towards both animals and individuals with diverse perspectives, creating a bridge between creativity and compassion.”
The exhibition will continue at the Huntingdon-based library until November 23. (SR)
