NFSB names new principals and directors

The New Frontiers School Board has confirmed several new administrative appointments for the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Following a lengthy selection process that lasted through the month of May, the positions were approved during the most recent meeting of the council of commissioners, which took place on June 4.

Caroline Bouchard will replace Eveline Taylor as principal of Howick Elementary School. Bouchard has been working with the NFSB since 2007, when she began teaching at St. Willibrord Elementary School in Chateauguay. She has also taught in the alternative program at Howard S. Billings High School, and most recently served with the NFSB’s educational services department as a pedagogical consultant with expertise in sexuality education, culture and citizenship in Quebec, and kindergarten transition.

Taylor returned from a very brief retirement last November as interim principal at Howick Elementary to replace Melanie Primeau, who took over as principal at Howard S. Billings High School in Chateauguay.

Diana Gervasi will become the new assistant centre director at the Chateauguay Valley Career Education Centre and the Huntingdon Adult Education and Community Centre. She has been serving in this role since February on an interim basis. Gervasi began her career in education with the NFSB at Howard S. Billings in 2009, before moving to Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in 2014 as an English and resource teacher.

The NFSB’s Educational Services department now has a new director in Joanne Malowany, who previously worked with the board in 2007 as a math and science consultant. Since then, she has worked at LEARN Quebec, and at the Lester B. Pearson School Board, where she has served as both a vice principal and principal as well as the assistant director of communications and community development.

Finally, Harmony Elementary School will also see a new face behind the principal’s desk comes September. Steven Chan, who is presently serving as the vice-principal of Centennial Regional High School, will take over at the Chateauguay-based school from current principal Pascale Caouette. (SR)
