The MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent has awarded $67,657 in funding to the municipality of Saint-Anicet for the construction of a new multi-sport playing surface at the Cazaville recreation park. For its part, the municipality contributed $7,517, bringing the total cost of the project to $75,174.
“We are very pleased that the MRC has invested in this wonderful project,” said Saint-Anicet mayor Sylvie Tourangeau.
The new facility consists of a dek hockey surface that also incorporates a pickleball court. Residents will thus be able to enjoy these two rapidly growing sports.
According to Tourangeau, the work was completed about three weeks ago. “We were waiting for the MRC council members and representatives to be available before proceeding with the official opening,” she explained. The mayor also noted that the new facility can be used year-round. “Next winter, we’ll be able to lay our ice directly on the dek hockey and pickleball surface. Ice is very popular in the winter,” she added.
Tourangeau noted that the Cazaville recreation center was previously owned by a citizen-run nonprofit organization. “Last fall, the organization decided to transfer the facilities to the municipality,” she said.
Now that it owns the site, the municipality of Saint-Anicet intends to continue developing recreational infrastructure in the area. Other projects for the Cazaville community are also in the works. “More announcements are coming, but it’s still too early to reveal the details,” the mayor concluded.
