Duck, duck… goose
Here is a photo that seems to suggest an unusual story. Nature photographer Peter Dahms was walking the banks of the Rivière aux Outardes with his cameras, when he inadvertently put the hundreds of geese and ducks that stop there for a ‘migration break’ to flight. In the distance he spotted these three in this striking configuration – the only creatures about. ‘They seemed to be entirely content with one another’s company and not the least concerned about their relative isolation,’ said Dahms. ‘They permitted me to approach them in the twilight, close enough to get this image of their curious pose,’ he explained. Dahms quipped that our guess was as good as his when it came to the exact nature of the relationship shared by this Canada goose and mallard pair.
