Ormstown resident Lorelei Muller snapped this wonderful photograph of a green frog next to a water lily from her kayak while out on a midday paddle on the Rivière aux Outardes. “I’ve never met a green frog that I didn’t want to photograph, but when they’re posed near a flower, they’re even more irresistible,” she says, while noting how challenging it can be to get close enough in a kayak to photograph the river’s wildlife. The green frogs don’t seem to be bothered by the presence of the kayak, while smaller frogs are more nervous and jump away. Muller says the river and its banks are full of life. “The water has been pretty brown this year, so it’s been challenging to see fish. The presence of at least one great blue heron, at least two green herons, three or four kingfishers, and at least two minks, all seen repeatedly in the kilometre stretch that I routinely paddle, implies that there is enough prey to sustain them.”
