Officers from the Haut-Saint-Laurent station of the Sûreté du Québec stopped a motorist around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 for a serious speeding violation. The offender was caught driving on Route 138 in Très-Saint-Sacrement at 140 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The offence resulted in an $811 fine and 10 demerit points to be entered on the speeder’s driving record. The individual’s driver’s licence was also suspended for seven days, as required by the Highway Safety Code for serious speeding offences.
Later that same day, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers stopped a motorist on the Bryson Sideroad in Ormstown for another speeding violation. The offender was caught travelling at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver received a ticket for $811 and was assessed 10 demerit points. In this case, the individual’s driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, as this was not his first time being pulled over for a serious speeding offence.
The Sûreté du Québec would like to remind drivers that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions. On average, speeding is a factor in 115 deaths and 420 serious injuries annually on Quebec roads.
