Police identify victims in East-Hawkesbury double homicide

The victims of a double homicide in the East-Hawkesbury community of Chute-à-Blondeau have been identified as the mother and brother of the Très-Saint-Sacrement man accused in their killing.

According to an April 25 news release issued by the Hawkesbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the victims have been identified following a post-mortem investigation as 50-year-old Sherri Buchanan and her son, 24-year-old Darren Chisholm.

Their bodies were discovered during the night of April 19 by OPP officers who had earlier received a tip about a possible crime scene from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

SQ officers had arrested 22-year-old Gavin Chisholm on Highway 30 in Les Cèdres following an alleged machete attack on a truck driver.

The OPP officially charged Chisholm with two counts of first-degree murder on April 21. He faces additional charges in Quebec, including aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief over $5,000 by rendering a truck and its trailer dangerous, useless, inoperative, or ineffective.

The Hawkesbury OPP and the Sûreté du Québec are continuing to work together on a joint investigation. (Gleaner Staff)
